Smoke-Free Parks And Leisure Services Facilities
Creating a Healthy Environment for All
As of January 1, 2020, all Canton Parks and Canton Leisure Services facilities are now smoke-free properties except for Pheasant Run Golf Club and Fellows Creek Golf Club. Smoking will continue to be permitted on these courses, due to the limited impact to others enjoying course amenities. Smoking at Pheasant Run and Fellows Creek Golf Clubs will continue to be restricted inside their club houses, as well as at their outdoor food-service dining areas.
Canton Township Park Ordinance Section 50-2 prohibits smoking in all Canton Parks, as well as the following Canton Leisure Services properties including: Canton Sports Center; Summit on the Park; and The Village Theater at Cherry Hill.

- Flodin Park
- Griffin Park
- Heritage Park
- Independence Park
- Kopper Park
- Patriot Park
- Preservation Park
- Victory Park
- Canton Dog Park
Canton Park amenities covered by the smoking ban, include: Athletic Fields; Recreation Areas; Pickleball Courts; Tennis Courts; Playgrounds; Trails; and Volleyball Courts.

What Areas in Canton Township Prohibit Smoking?

What Types of Smoking Products are Prohibited?
Under Canton Parks Ordinance 50, section 2: smoking is defined as the use of tobacco, marijuana, or any other of its derivatives, or the use of vapor products or nicotine alternatives.
What are the Benefits of a Smoke-Free Ordinance?
- Creates healthy and safe environments for Canton residents and visitors, especially children and youth.
- Protects parks and natural areas from the potential risk of fires.
- Protects parks and natural areas from environmental damage caused by littering of cigarette butts and other tobacco-related waste.
- Reduces exposure of all individuals to smoking, protecting their health
When Did this Smoking Ban Take Effect?
The Canton Board of Trustees approved the Canton Parks Ordinance’s smoking ban on November 26, 2019. The Canton Parks Ordinance went into effect on January 1st, 2020.
Does the Canton Parks Ordinance Smoking Ban Apply to Events that Take Place in Canton Parks or on Canton Leisure Service Properties?
Yes, the smoking ban applies to events held in Canton Parks, as well as Canton Leisure Services properties with the exception of Pheasant Run Golf Club and Fellows Creek Golf Club, where smoking is allowed on the golf courses.
How is the Smoking Ban Being Enforced?
Observers of violators of the smoking ban are asked to only call the Canton Police Department’s non-emergency number at 734/394-5400 and NOT 911. Violators of the Canton Township Smoking Ban may face a 93-day misdemeanor with associated fines.
