SEPTEMBER 2023 Featured Artists: AMANDA PRINGLE, ANDREA ROSE & CHRISTINA CZAJA
SEPTEMBER 2023 EXHIBIT
Featured Artists: Amanda Pringle, Andrea Rose & Christina Czaja
Exhibition: “Interpreting Life"
Date: August 29, 2023 - September 24, 2023
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 7th from 6-9 PM - FREE & OPEN to the public
The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is pleased to present "Interpreting Life", a mixed media collaborative art exhibition showcasing the artists’ interpretation of the natural world around them, from August 29 through September 24, 2023. The three contributing artists to the exhibit are: Amanda Pringle, Andrea Rose, and Christina Czaja. In their words, “a fleeting moment is captured in malleable materials, such as paint and clay, and carries the imprint of our emotional response to the ever-changing world around us.”
Amanda Pringle’s art is inspired by a quote by Albert Einstein, “look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” This exploration has allowed Pringle to have a profound understanding of herself and taught her about “humans’ place in the world through themes of life and its cycles, death, love, journeys and destinations, solitude and connection, and the regenerative miracle of life on Earth.” Her paintings are often based on her own photographs and allow her to combine her unique perspective with the impact of vibrant colors, various textures, and mark-making. Pringle believes her place as an artist is at the intersection of observation (input) and creative expression (output).
The focus of Christina Czaja’s artwork includes painting, mixed media, encaustic, sculpture, and drawing; with heavy attention placed on sculpture and en plein air painting (the act of painting outdoors). Czaja’s drive comes from the need to interpret the environment around her and her reaction to the constant stimuli to her senses. For her, art is a way of communicating and exploring her interaction with the external world and her place in it. She describes this stating, “the process of my work creates a window to my personal perspective of my external world and insight into my internal dialogue.”
Andrea Rose identifies primarily as a landscape painter and finds plein air painting as a wonderful excuse to be outside and experience nature. This explains why much of her artwork begins outside. Rose describes herself as a measured painter and explains her technique as the “need to be inspired by what is in front of me to create something worthwhile, which means that I might spend a whole morning just looking around and never get my gear out. What I want is to lose myself in the process, to be encompassed in the environment by studying it conscientiously.”
